Pai Gow side bets have a house edge greater than the basic game so are generally not very "good" bets to make. So if you put a 3 of a kind in the 5 card hand and a pair in the 2 card hand - it is still a full house for the bonus bets. The side bets are generally based on your 7 card hand. Some places also have Pai Gow insurance side bets which pay off if you get a Pai Gow hand - which is a bad hand - not even a pair. Full progressive jackpot typically would require a 7 card Royal flush which is obviously extremely rare but the progressive payoff is often 5 figures off a $1 bet. Some tables also have progressive or fortune bonuses that are a separate side bet and pay still larger amounts for the very biggest hands. The envy pays less than what the player gets for the regular bonus - but you get something. ![]() In many places if you bet $5 on the bonus they have an "envy bonus" which means you also get something if someone else at the table gets a really big hand - at least a full house I believe. ![]() Most common is the bonus that will pay you off at increasing odds for big hands - takes at least a straight or better to get anything I think.
